A Pliny A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

Put in a good morning of work erecting a canopy thing on the patio for the mom. Rewarding myself with a Pliny. I would have had a Pliny even if I didn't do the work.

I believe this is the first time I've seen a Union Jack bomber. I've been wanting to say this for a long time now, but I've been holding off waiting for Pliny bottles to really make a big leap, but Firestone Union Jack in the bottle is easily better than Pliny the Elder in a bottle. Not only that but as each gets further and further away from the bottling date, Pliny declines from its baseline way faster. On tap they may be a push, IMO, but in the bottle Union Jack is the champ.

Making me thirsty way too early. Didn't miss much with the Freak cask, not much carbonation.

You better watch over your shoulder for the Pliny bottle apologists.

yeh, some people don't want to hear Pliny aint the best DIPA out there. On tap, from clean lines and super fresh it almost can't be beat. On tap in Santa Rosa it's sublime. Out of many bottles, I've had 1 very good one and the rest are just "above average." I've never had a bad Union Jack in the bottle.

I'm running out of time in the day to drink my Expo hoppiness.

I've had that bad bottle (6er) of Union Jack - not pretty. Still, Union Jack is a great DIPA, like Pliny. Plus both Firestone and Russian River date their bottles, which is huge for DIPAs. Not going to take umbrage with your call on Union Jack. Kinda like arguing what supermodel is the best looking - a no lose argument.

I just had the worst Pliny and Union Jack (both on tap) that I have ever had at O'Brien's. Extremely disappointing. They were equally bad.

Even more disappointing was Tom's reaction. When I mentioned the Pliny tasted bad, he poured himself a taster, tasted it, then gruffly said, "No," and said nothing else. No offer to replace it. Nothing.
